What does the CRC 956 do?

The Collaborative Research Centre 956 explores conditions and impact of star formation by means of astrophysics, instrumentation and laboratory research. By applying the latest astronomical observational instruments in the range of submillimeter and far infrared wavelength allows direct observation of star formation and their birth clouds and respective – so far not understood – interactions.
To deal with this various tasks astrophysical laboratory research methods, detectors, modeling approaches and analysis tools will be further developed and will be applied in telescopes and observatories worldwide. To young scientists the SFB 956 offers contacts with international acknowledged scientists and by this also a swift start in an international scientific career.
